April 28 - Universal Studios

What a day we've had! John had intentions of us leaving Tony and Lisa's at 6 am - but Claire and I knew that was never going to happen!  So we hit the road at 8.15 and arrived at the Studios with our pre-booked and paid for tickets in our hot little hands ready for some bone crunching adventure.

Entering Universal Studios
(Sorry about the sideways pic)

Claire had her photo taken with just about every character at Universal Studios - Shrek, Scooby Doo, Beetle Juice, the Minions, the Blues Brothers - and she was invited up on stage to dance with them - and of course Marilyn Monroe.
No, we haven't adopted an Asian child whilst here!
Beetle Juice!
We went on the Minions ride for starters, thinking it would be a nice safe ride for Nana but it wasn't to be.  It was a simulator ride but the speed and jerkiness weren't a good recipe. Claire was keen for us to go on the carousel after that, bless her, but it would have been a time waster so we headed off to more adventurous (but safe) rides - Shrek! We love that guy!

Betty Boop - for you Tagan.
(Sorry for the sideways view.)
We stopped off at the place where Josh was called up on stage to help with the "Woody" character drawing and Claire was called up on the same stage to help the Blues Brothers.  What a hoot!

Blues Brothers Groupie!
Claire spotted Marilyn Monroe on the street and chased her down to have a chat. Marilyn enjoyed chatting with Claire, she put her arm around Claire's shoulders and walked ... and walked ... and walked to her next destination right by the back lot trolley tours. Marilyn took an absolute fancy to Claire.  The queue was enormous and the "front of line" queue was big too (the front of line passes were an extra $55 each, so needless to say, we didn't buy them). Marilyn took us right to the front of line queue and told the bloke to let us in! Bless!
Claire's favourite - Marilyn

The back and front lot trolley tours are still the same as they were 30 years ago when we brought Travis and Melanie ... but we all enjoyed seeing the plane crash disaster; the killer at The Bates Motel who still looks after the departing train passengers even after we're way up and around the bend; Jaws, the very plastic looking shark; the rain and storm that results in a torrential flood; driving through the tunnel where the 'earthquake' takes place; and of course Wisteria Lane, where the Housewives live.

Our pic after finishing the back lot tour.
After the tour, Claire spotted the Miss Monroe posing for photos and just had to visit with her again. Marilyn made all of the people waiting in line wait for absolutely ages while she spoke with Claire and John and myself - we tried to get away so others could have their time with her, but she wouldn't let us go - it was a bit embarrassing as we could see the others in line getting a little peeved.

Claire told the blond bombshell she wanted to be just like her! I said, oh at Movie World? She said, no here, at Universal Studios!

What a day we've had.
